I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

                         About The Planetary Blues Band
With the release of Once Upon A Time In The South Loop, The Planetary Blues Band take a giant step towards fulfilling their goals - "pushing our new album, getting more radio play, and gigging as much as possible....(also to) work, write songs, and pay tribute where it is due.
"We know the blues scene and we know our unique selling points. A plan is in place. Any goal without a plan is a wish, and we have big goals."
This unique trio of brothers (Martin Schaefer-Murray, guitar-vocals; Michael Schaefer-Murray, guitar-vocals; Bobby Schaefer-Murray, bass; also Nick Evans, drums) got their start playing, and being influenced by, the Blues. The band was born in Valparaiso, Indiana in 1999 in their mother's basement, where they spent countless hours learning entire albums by Chicago Blues greats like Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Son Seals. From there, over the course of the past ten-plus years, Planetary has held onto those roots while expanding outward into various other corners of the musical universe.
"We decided to keep it simple, and write with the Blues as our focus. The idea for this album, and our albums to come, is to explore the Blues genre as fully and concisely as possible." - Martin Schaefer-Murray in All Access Magazine interview (read entire interview here: http://allaccessmagazine.com/2013/04/25/the-planetary-blues-band/).

"Once Upon A Time In The South Loop"  - What The Press Is Saying So Far

"Someone you want to keep on your radar...able to take an older genre and incorporate new and fresh sounds...sound like a band who's been playing on Memphis' Beale street for years. 9 out of 10 Stars."                                                                    BLUES ROCK REVIEW

"This family blues band brings a modern Chicago blues-rock sound to the forum with its sizzling guitars, surging rhythms, and piercing vocals.
Plenty of emotion to share, both from vocals and from guitars, as the band makes each statement clearly with passion."   SOUTHLAND BLUES
"After giving "Once Upon A Time In The South Loop", the latest release by The Planetary Blues Band, just a few listens, I could not come to any conclusion, other than this album is pretty damn good. Consists of ten immensely entertaining tracks...an extremely talented band that offer up a nice fresh take on the Blues."            BLUES UNDERGROUND NETWORK

"This is what the Rolling Stones would sound like if they were just starting today: a band dedicated completely to the blues..."Blues Resurrection is so deep and so real that you could almost swear you're in some wooden shanty of a blues bar in some Southern backwoods, with the stale smell of smoke and illegal whiskey in the air. Keep an eye on The Planetary Blues Band, folks. These guys are going places."BOOMEROCITY

"Having characteristics similar to early British blues bands, this album has a fresh, familiar sound...'The Thorns Will Show You' has a real Sixties sound than can easily become a radio player. Definitely an interesting release."                                                 BMANS BLUES REPORT

Once Upon A Time In The South Loop - Planetary Blues Band - New Release Review

I just received the new release, Once Upon A Time In The South Loop, by Planetary Blues Band and it's pretty cool. Opening with an original arrangement of Blind Lemon Jefferson's See That My Grave Is Kept Clean. Having characteristics similar to early British blues bands, this has a fresh but familiar sound. Blues rocker The Thorns Will Show You has a real sixties sound and could easily become a radio player. I like the guitar hook and the relentless manner in which the guitar soloing is handled. This Precious Existence has an odd time signature for a rock or blues track, 6/8 I think giving it more of a european sound. A haunting melody and twin guitar leads make this track particularly interesting. Rev. Robert Wilkins track That's No Way To Get Along, is given a slightly more rocky treatment to the Wilkins original but the feel of the original composition is preserved. This track has the feel of the Dead on a blues track and will likely have broad appeal. Sacred and Profane Blues takes a stronger blues rock stance. This is one of the best tracks on the recording with Morganfield structure and strong rhythm bass and drum leadership and quick guitar riffs. Blues Resurrection is a slick slow blues with hot guitar riffs and a slow driving bass and drum beat. This is obviously more modern but frenzied guitar work reminiscent of early Buddy Guy is present and cool. Crazy Cryin' Blues is an upbeat blues rocker that really gets your feet moving. Vocals and instrumental arrangement to me still give it a strong English sound but it is a strong American track with intense guitar soloing. When I Say I Love You is a real stinger! Dig down deep, grab your chair and enjoy the fretboard workout. I love the expressive guitar riffs on this track and think this is likely the hottest track on the release. The Shillelagh is a quick shuffle tune with solid guitar work. A really cool way to conclude an interesting release.

If you support live Blues acts, up and coming Blues talents and want to learn more about Blues news and Fathers of the Blues, Like ---Bman’s Blues Report--- Facebook Page! I’m looking for great talent and trying to grow the audience for your favorites band! ”LIKE” This track doesn't appear on the new CD but is respective of the bands work.
