Exclusive Interview with Chris Duarte

Liner Notes  Exclusive Interview with Chris Duarte Bman: Hi Chris. Been a fan for a long time. Glad to be finally catching up with you. I reviewed your newest release, Lucky 13 back in November and it cooks! I see that you're touring coast to coast. How is the new release being received? Chris:  I think it’s going pretty good. Units are moving from the merch table and on this album I wrote a lot of songs that can be played live. In the past I just went a bit crazy on some things and layered too much so that it was nearly impossible to recreate even with two guitars. Try to keep is simple and come up with easy accessible hooks for the songs. People are digging Lucky 13 at the shows and on-line so I’ve been real happy with the response. Bman: That's great! I remember when I first started to listen to you that my impression was you had a Texas flavor with a taste of Hendrix. That was what first attracted me to your music, that cocky guitar attitude ...

Bman's Exclusive Interview - Jackie Scott

Liner Notes  Exclusive Interview - Jackie Scott I have to admit … sometimes I think that I live under a rock. A number of months back I got a cd by Jackie Scott and the Housewreckers , Going To The Westside , for review and I wasn’t familiar with her work. At the time, I gave it a good review and stuck it in a drawer with CD’s to listen to later because it was good. My regular readers know I have been going through that drawer recently and pulling out the best of the best. Jackie Scott is high on the list. Her recording is incredible and when I watch video of her I wonder how I could have missed her. I mean this is the real deal! http://www.bmansbluesreport.com/2012/01/going-to-west-side-jackie-and.html " Jackie has been kind enough to take some time out to talk with me and I’m ready to listen! Bman: Hi Jackie! Where did you come from? I mean you are off the charts with talent and you can’t just be starting out! Tell me what you have been up to and how ...

Liner Notes  Rev. Gary Davis, Bozo Padunavac and American Primitivism - An Exclusive Interview with Peter Lang I caught up the other day with legendary American Primitive guitar player Peter Lang. American Primitivism , also known as American Primitive Guitar , is the music genre started by John Fahey in the late 1950s. Fahey composed and recorded avant-garde / neo-classical compositions using traditional country blues fingerpicking techniques, which had previously been used primarily to accompany vocals. Other famous early proponents were Leo Kottke and Robbie Basho who all played at one time or another on Fahey's Takoma Records label. The style is derived from the country blues and string band music of the '20s and '30s. Fahey referred to it as 'American Primitive' after the 'French Primitive' painters, meaning untutored. Bman: Hi Peter. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk with me. First...

Bman's Exclusive Interview With Anthony Gomes

Liner Notes  Exclusive Interview With Anthony Gomes I had the opportunity to catch songwriter/singer/guitarist extraordinaire Anthony Gomes and talk with him about his new release Up 2 Zero . This interview was conducted last week prior to my reviewing the release but I believe that you will still find it interesting. Bman : Hi Anthony: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. I’ve been following your career for a number of years and am actually pretty anxious to see what the new Up 2 Zero recording sounds like. The pre hype all indicates that it’s your bluest effort. Anthony: Yes, I think it is our bluest effort since our debut, Blues In Technicolor . I think there are a couple of reasons for that. First, there are songs that follow the traditional 12 bar format like One Last Time and Room 414 . So, you can’t really get much more blues than that. Second, there’s songs like Voodoo Moon and Last Bluesman Gone that have this deep connection ...
