💿 ALBUM REVIEW: Doug Duffey and Badd - Souvenirs

Image
If you’re looking for the sonic equivalent of a late-night, sweat-soaked dive bar in Louisiana, you can always count on Doug Duffey and BADD to deliver. Doug’s been a staple of the Deep South's music scene for over half a century—he’s in the Blues Hall of Fame and has written for everyone from George Clinton to Marcia Ball—but he still sounds as hungry as ever. Together with his band BADD (Ben Ford, Adam Ryland, and Dan Sumner), they’ve cooked up a brand new record called Souvenirs . It’s their fifth time locking into a groove together, and it gives you exactly what they do best: raw, greasy, "swampedelic" rhythm and blues that doesn't care about modern radio polish.  🎵 LISTEN & SUPPORT THE ALBUM   Add this Record to Your Collection Available in Digital Formats. 🛒 Buy Album on Amazon Store As an Amazon Associate, Bman earns from qualifying purchases. Fort Sumner Music artist: Doug Duffy and Badd - Ain't Going Back - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Ain't Going Back , by Doug Duffy and Badd , and it's pure contemporary blues. Opening with Whirlpool , with it's droning bass line by Ben Ford, and Adam Ryland on drums. Doug Duffy plays keys and has lead vocals which really are solid, Dave P. Moore on harmonica and Dan Sumner how has great tone and lays in critical riffs. Acoustic blues, The Wishing Game features Duffey on vocal and Sumner on guitar crafting nicely, adding light snare work by Ryland. Very nice. Rock It All Night is one of my favorite tracks on the release with a firm blues rock beat with plenty of backbeat, reinforced by Ford and solid harmonica work by Moore. Another solid blues rocker is No Mercy with it's heavy kick by Ryland. Duffey's vocals really work the pocket and Sumner's guitar lead adds real grit. Gallus Pole is a cool boogie with a great bass line by Ford and Moore on harmonica sailing in a swirl around the dynamic vo...

Out Of The Past Music artist: Doug Duffey and BADD - Play The Blues - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Play The Blues , by Doug Duffey and BADD and it's straight up with a twist. Opening with shuffle track, The Things That We Used To Do , Doug Duffey takes the basic original blues premise and bends it. With basic piano, bass and drum accompaniment, holds a solid shuffle beat under solid vocal but then in walks Dan Sumner on lead guitar and plays outside of the routine shuffle beat. Pretty cool matrix with cool backing vocals. On Evil, a mod funky blues track, soulful vocals command the spotlight but you can hardly miss the introduction of rhythm guitar riffs that fall more into the pop/punk genre. A fat bluesy guitar solo by Sumner and it's contagious beat makes this one of my favorites on the release. Blues based rocker, Drink It On Down , is another of my favorites with  distinct Keith Richards dirty rock feel. A springy, piano rocker, You Got That Somethin' , has a most commercial feel with it's simpl...
