Up 2 Zero Entertainment artist: Anthony Gomes - Peace, Love & Loud Guitars - New Release review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Peace, Love & Loud Guitars , from Anthony Gomes and it has the signature Gomes edgy rock blues feel. Opening with solid rocker, Come Down , Gomes is handling lead vocal and guitar. Backed by Mike Brignardello on bass, Greg Morrow on drums, David Smith on keys, Chris Leuzinger on acoustic guitar and Angie Primm, Gale Stuart, Devonne Foulkes and Gomes on backing vocals this is a nice opener. Turning up the blues, Blues In The First Degree has a great pace and Gomes' vocals are gritty and raw. His guitar soloing has real bite and Brignardello's bass lines are perfect. Shuffle track, The Whiskey Made Me Do It , is one of those tracks that you know will be a huge concert favorite. Gomes' slide work gives the track a steamy edge making this one of my favorite tracks on the release. The radio choice for the release is ballad, You Are Amazing with it's supple melody, fluid guitar solos and solid vocals. Ve...

Blues Rocker Anthony Gomes to Release Peace, Love & Loud Guitars on October 19th

Image
Blues Rocker Anthony Gomes to Release 13 th Disc Peace, Love & Loud Guitars out October 19th International Tour Underway Anthony Gomes has been carving out his own space as an unapologetically rock-influenced bluesman and songwriter since first coming to national attention in the 1998. Gomes’ new record, Peace, Love & Loud Guitars, is the culmination of a life spent honoring blues traditions while never losing sight of his own identity. He writes memorable new songs that exist somewhere between Willie Dixon and Billy Gibbons. He stands his ground as a creative artist, not a derivative history lesson, and is eager to push the blues back into the mainstream. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Gomes relocated to Chicago in the late 90’s. During a brief stint as a sideman for Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Gomes put together his own group and won the first annual Buddy Guy’s Legends “Best Unsigned Blues Band” competition in 1998. Later that year, Gomes release...

Tres Lobas Enterprises artist: Antry - Devil Don't Care - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Devil Don't Care , from Antry and it's full set of diverse melodic music. Opening with title track Devil Don't Care , a smooth shuffle track featuring Steve Antry on lead vocal, harmonica and guitar, Greg Morrow on drums, Michael Rhodes on bass and Rob McNelly and Pat Buchanan and Brent Mason on guitars.   Always With Me is as smooth and mellow a pop track gets. With warmly blended vocals and easy backing, this track has radio all over it. Leon Russell's dynamic, Prince of Peace gets a stylistic remake with a bit more bite on the vocals and some crisp guitar attack displacing the hammering piano work of Russell. Shaun Murphy's soulful vocals really add nicely maintaining the rowdy feel of Russell's original recording. Antry shows over and again the he has a really warm voice capable of doing most anything he wants, demonstrated nicely on the somber ballad, Borrowed Angels . Anthony Gomes sits i...

Up 2 Zero Entertainment artist: Anthony Gomes - Electric Field Holler - New Release review

Image
I just received the newest release, Electric Field Holler , from Anthony Gomes and it's blistering! Opening with Turn It Up , Gomes sets high expectations with a solid cowbell which tells you right off where the track is going. Hot, stinging and rocking. A modern rocker with a blues root and clearly modern riffs permeate this track. Back Door Scratchin' sets down with a bit more southern rock feel and heavy kick drum bottom by Chad Cromwell. Theo Harden on bass and Cromwell set a heavy stage for Gomes who really throws up the pyrotechnics. Whiskey Train has a real cool swagger and I particularly like Gomes vocals on this track. Particularly bluesy guitar riffs make this one of my favorite tracks on the release. Blueschild is a lumbering heavy rocker with snappy blues guitar riffs. Nowhere Is Home has a simple rock rhythm and tight vocal harmonies with Vicki Hampton, Wendy Moten, Minnie Murphy and Kelly Wild. Cool keyboard effects add to the overall effectiveness of this ...

Bman's Exclusive Interview With Anthony Gomes

Image
Liner Notes  Exclusive Interview With Anthony Gomes I had the opportunity to catch songwriter/singer/guitarist extraordinaire Anthony Gomes and talk with him about his new release Up 2 Zero . This interview was conducted last week prior to my reviewing the release but I believe that you will still find it interesting. Bman : Hi Anthony: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. I’ve been following your career for a number of years and am actually pretty anxious to see what the new Up 2 Zero recording sounds like. The pre hype all indicates that it’s your bluest effort. Anthony: Yes, I think it is our bluest effort since our debut, Blues In Technicolor . I think there are a couple of reasons for that. First, there are songs that follow the traditional 12 bar format like One Last Time and Room 414 . So, you can’t really get much more blues than that. Second, there’s songs like Voodoo Moon and Last Bluesman Gone that have this deep connection ...

New Release: Anthony Gomes - Up2Zero - Review

Image
I just received a copy of the new recording, Up2Zero by Blueswax Magazine's "Blues Artist of The Year" Anthony Gomes . The disk opens with a screamer, Back To The Start , a Texas style blues with a great base, flaring guitar and solid vocals by Gomes. One Last Time is a great T-Bone walker inspired track with blazing guitar work. Gomes shines not only on guitar but also on vocals. Love Sweet Love, more structured for airplay, is a solid track with hints to Jimi, Robin Trower and Robert Cray. Fly Away follows a blues rock format and will also be well suited for commercial airplay exhibits some great guitar tone. Darkest Before The Dawn , the classic song, is extremely well done here with Gomes singing the heartfelt ballad and playing beautiful melodic guitar runs... shifting keys midway and with elegant backing female vocals throughout. Room 414 is an uptempo blues rocker with nods to Crossroads and inferences to the room in which Robert Johnson cut his known recordi...
