Nicky T And The Snake Charmers - Ain't Wasting Time - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Ain't Wasting Time , from Nicky T And The Snake Charmers and it's dripping blues, soul and R&B music. Opening with Magic Sam 's, That's All I Need , Nicky T with soulful vocals and groomed guitar riffs gets into that Impressions groove. With Todd Glass on drums, Alex Lyon on bass, Chris Codish on keys, and Greg Nagy on backing vocals, this is a solid opener. Rock n Roller, Feel Like A Hundred , features a driving guitar lead with vocals by Nicky and super piano work by Andy Szymanski on piano. Pete Berg on drums and Frank Greenhalgh round out the band and this track is really moving. Gritty blues, The Glass really gets down featuring guitarist extraordinaire, Ronnie Earl on lead guitar and excellent vocals by Greg Nagy. This tracks really sails with the addition of Jon Johnson on drums, Mike Marshall on bass, Jason Bone on rhythm guitar, John Gavin on piano and warm organ work by Szymanski. Excell...
CD submissions accepted! Guest writers always welcome!!

I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Louise Cappi - Me'lange - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Me'lange, from Louise Cappi and it's a mix of Latin jazz,  rock, and ballads. Opening with Brazilian influenced Bossa Nova style jazz pop, Talk To Me, Jenna McSwain on piano, Cali Millington on bass, AJ Hall on drums, and Russell Ramirez on trombone. Cool opener. Cappi gives Randy Newman's Guilty and bluesy ballad feel and lays out some of the best vocals on the release, backed by Dean Zucchero on bass, Piere Menefield on drums, and Alex Krahe on guitar. Stirring in a little bit of soul with Chain of Fools/Unchain My Heart Cappi has a warm, club feel with David Hyde on bass, Krahe on guitar and vocal and John Doheny on sax. Gershwin's classic, Summertime gets a cool jazzy makeover and Cappi shows her jazz pedigree (daughter of later NY jazz guitarist, Al Cappi) with plenty of style. Wrapping the release is Leon Russell's Song For You. Cappi takes it straight with Paul Longstreth on piano accompaniment. This is a serious vocal release with a taste of everything.
