I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

How Blue Can You Get - Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch

Jason Elmore is a Dallas, TX-based guitarist/singer/songwriter who has taken the music scene by storm in just a short period of time. Whether fronting his trio, Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch, or performing as a solo acoustic act, Elmore is able to bring together elements of popular blues/rock/Americana in his performances that seem to bridge the gap between blues, rock, country, surf, and jazz. He is remarkable in his ability to appeal to fans of all genres of music with his devastating guitar licks, soulful old-school vocals, keen sense of humor and imagainative-yet-familiar songwriting. All one needs to do is watch him play live one time in order to have a good understanding of how all these different genres of music have a common thread when it comes to eliciting an emotional response from the listener and taking them to that special place where only the music exists. Since 2008, he has fronted the trio "Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch", a high-energy melting pot of musical styles that is reminscent of Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Freddie King. The band is rounded out by Chris Waw on bass and Mike Talbot on drums and can be found 3 or 4 nights a week anyplace from a rowdy roadhouse to a large festival, and all points in between. They regularly play a 2-hour first set that is comprised equally of a healthy dose of classic rock/blues covers and original material. They released their debut CD "Upside Your Head" in 2010 to rave reviews as well as a long stint on the Texas Roots Music Airplay Charts. The CD got voted as one of the top 60 albums of the year by The Blues Report, and the song 'Black Widow' from the same album was voted as one of the top 30 songs of 2010. The band is currently at work on their follow-up album and they just seem to get better and better with each show, amassing a large fanbase wherever they play. In additon to Hoodoo Witch, Jason Elmore stays in high demand as a solo acoustic performer. Doing interpretations of classic pre-war blues, folk, country, and rock songs along with acoustic renditions of his original material, Elmore has a style that is very much unique and inimitable. Whether playing Delta-style slide guitar or beating a percussive rhythm on his acoustic guitar, Elmore has turned many heads and has received accolades from fans and critics of all types of music. He is effectively able to cross genres and provide something that everyone can enjoy, regardless of their musical preference. His acoustic playing is similar to Monte Montgomery, Tommy Emmanuel, Robert Johnson, and Chet Atkins, just to name a few. This is definitely a perfomer you need to see live. His abilities as a guitar player, singer, and songwriter are second-to-none and his good humor and charisma turn fans into friends at every show. Check out "Upside Your Head" on the Underworld Label or better yet, go see this cat live. Be sure and bring a sweat rag and your rocking shoes!
