I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Ironing Board Sam, Carolina Chocolate Drops to play Blues Cruise #19!

Ironing Board Sam & CrowdIroning Board Sam is thrilled to take his show on the high seas as a performer on Blues Cruise #19 in October 2012!

This year has been great for Sam, who has performed at many venues and has also seen the release of his latest recording, Going Up, on the Music Maker label. While developing Sam's career, Music Maker also assisted Sam in obtaining new, affordable housing in Chapel Hill, N.C., a dependable car for traveling to gigs, new eyeglasses and also dentures. Sam is now ready to take the world by storm, and he's especially hoping the dance created by the NC Youth Tap Ensemble to accompany his song "Life is Like a Seesaw" will catch on around the country! Don't forget, you can enter to win a chance to see Sam and the Carolina Chocolate Drops live on Blues Cruise #19!
Digging Through the Stacks: "Old Time Religion"

Elder James & Pauline GoinsThe power of Elder James and Mother Pauline's vocals rising together against the tension of Elder James' guitar style, rooted in an ancient West African Lyre style, drew Corinne and I to this recording of "Old Time Religion" by the Gospel couple from Ridgeway, South Carolina. The story behind the song: Tim was driving through Ridgeway when he stopped at a store to ask about local talent and was introduced to Mother Pauline and Elder James Goins. Within thirty minutes, Tim was recording them in their home. Before passing away, Pauline and Elder James performed at the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York City.

We hope you enjoy the track above as much as we do, and Happy Thanksgiving!
