‘Joe Bonamassa: Beacon Theatre – Live From New York’ documents 19 song performances that spans Bonamassa's career with smoky vocals complementing the guitar wizardry and rapid-fingered ease with which his fans know and love.

Alongside the great chemistry he shares with his formidable band-mates Carmine Rojas (bass), Tal Bergman (drums) and Rick Melick (keyboards), the Beacon Theatre concert DVD is mesmerizing to watch from start to finish.

Bonamassa kicks the festivities off with Slow Train, from 2011's solo album Dust Bowl, followed by fan-favourites including Cradle Song, Dust Bowl, When The Fire Hits The Sea, Bird On A Wire, Blue & Evil, Mountain Time, and many more.

Beth Hart joins Bonamassa on stage for soulful duets on I'll Take Care of You and Sinner's Prayer, which is featured on the recently released Don't Explain – an album of soul covers Hart recorded with Bonamassa.

John Hiatt, a Nashville Music Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and American Music Award (AMA) winner, joins Bonamassa for a rendition of Down Around My Place and I Know A Place.

As legendary classic rock singer Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free) hit the stage, the audience jumped to its feet as Bonamassa performed Fire And Water and Walk In My Shadows.

"This show is a testament to an artist at the top of his game, and still growing," says Bonamassa’s producer Kevin Shirley. "Soulful songstress Beth Hart digs deep on a couple of songs with Joe from their duet album, and music legends John Hiatt and Paul Rodgers get up alongside Joe. The interactions are a joy to behold."

The release of the Beacon Theatre DVD coincides with Bonamassa's March UK Arena tour. Dates include - Brighton Centre (March 23), Sheffield Motorpoint Arena (March 24), Newcastle Metro Arena (March 25), Edinburgh Usher Hall (March 27), Liverpool Echo Arena (March 28), Bournemouth International Centre (March 30), Birmingham National Indoor Arena (March 31), Capital FM Arena Nottingham (April 2), Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (April 4), and Blackpool Opera House (April 5). View Joe's March UK Arena Tour press release here.

The Beacon Theatre concert capped a year of achievements for Bonamassa the blues rock titan. His 12th solo album Dust Bowl debuted at #1 on Billboard's Blues Chart and #37 on Billboard's Top 200, making it his highest-selling and chart-ranking U.S. debut to date. Likewise in the UK it charted at # 12, achieving his highest chart position here. The album has just been nominated for a 2012 Blues Music Award (Best Blues Rock Album), while Bonamassa was honoured as 2011's Guitarist of the Year by Guitar International. This January Joe was on the cover of Classic Rock magazine for the first time, creating a big impact outside of the blues genre.

Bonamassa's hard rock band Black Country Communion – with band mates Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian – was named "Best New Band of the Last 10 Years" by VH1 Classic's That Metal Show, and Best Breaktrhough Act at 2011's Classic Rock Magazine Awards. The band's 2-disc live album Live Over Europe is released on CD in the UK on Monday February 27th.

Bonamassa is driving sales for the guitar industry and keeping the guitar alive, helping great companies like Guitar Center, Gibson, Epiphone, Ernie Ball, Dunlop, Seymour Duncan, Clear Sonic and Klotz Cables, all of whom have signature products with the Guitar phenomenon. Bonamassa's style of guitar playing has breathed new life and excitement back into the instrument as legions of new fans are becoming familiar again with the great sound of guitar-based rock music.

I Didn't Know - Frank Frost

Born Frank Otis Frost in Auvergne, Arkansas, United States, Frost learned to play piano at church as a young boy. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri at age 15, and spent time as a guitarist with drummer Sam Carr and Carr's father, Robert Nighthawk. He learned to play harmonica from Sonny Boy Williamson, who he toured with.

While playing with guitarist Big Jack Johnson, Frost attracted the interest of the record producer Sam Phillips, founder of Sun Records. Some recordings of note that followed included "Hey Boss Man" and "My Back Scratcher".

In the late 1970s, Frost was re-discovered by a blues enthusiast, Michael Frank, who began releasing albums on his Earwig Music Company label by the trio, now called The Jelly Roll Kings, after a song from Hey Boss Man.

Frost appeared in the films Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads and Crossroads.

He died of cardiac arrest in Helena, Arkansas in 1999.

Sean Carney Band Feat. Omar Coleman

Omar has established himself as one nation's premier harmonica players and authentic, dynamic blues performers alive today. With a voice soulful beyond his years, Omar has been blowing away audiences across the nation with his distinct, fiery harmonica skills. You may have seen Omar Coleman working throughout ChicagoLand & Northwest Indiana and across North America with the likes of the Kinsey Report, John Primer & the Real Deal Blues Band or the late-great Chico Banks, among many others. The future of Chicago Blues is being redefined by this harmonica virtuoso and the word is out!
The 2007 International Blues Challenge, held in February in Memphis, Tennessee, explaining that Carney and his crew are no newcomers to Blues. The IBC is presented by The Blues Foundation, who also awarded 34 year-old Carney the Albert King Best Guitarist Award and Best Dressed in their 23rd annual competition, before an audience of 1,700 blues lovers from all over the world.

A Columbus, Ohio native and veteran of the scene, like Carney, drummer Eric Blume has been performing with Carney in Columbus venues for over a decade, backing blues and R&B artists Christine Kittrell, Hank Marr, Jimmy “T-99” Nelson, Willie Pooch, Big Joe Duskin, Joe Weaver and Johnnie Bassett. In his early twenties, Carney’s passion for the Blues extended beyond the stage as he bolstered the scene in his hometown, organizing concerts featuring the likes of Jimmy Witherspoon and Charles Brown, writing blues-related articles, co-hosting a radio program called Spontaneous Combustion on WCBE 90.5 FM, organizing fundraisers for ailing artists and serving three terms as President of The Columbus Blues Alliance. When Hubert Sumlin and Henry Gray were recently in need of a backing band at The Soul Shine Blues Festival in Bascom, Ohio, organizers knew to look no further than The Sean Carney Band for professionalism and musicianship. Producer/guitarist Scott Cable also selected The SCB as backing band band for pioneering R&B vocalist Nappy Brown for a number of 2008 festival dates - unfortunately, it was not to be as the blues world recently lost Mr. Brown following a lengthy illness.

So Long Baby Goodbye - Sammy Lewis and Willie Johnson

The productive and all too brief meeting between vocalist / harmonica player Sammy Lewis and guitarist Willie Johnson produced one of the best blues issued by Sun Records. In the eyes of many collectors and blues fans - including this writer - there is no finer blues side ever cut on Sun than "I Feel So Worried" (Sun 218). Even rockabilly fans who merely tolerate Sun blues are often fond of this record, owing in no small way to Willie Johnson's guitar style. Recorded on March 28, 1955, it was the only time that Lewis and Johnson recorded together. The flipside, So Long Baby Goodbye" is more conventional R&B. The third song from this session, "Gonna Leave You Baby", was obviously not issued by Sam Phillips because the harmonica and guitar are terribly out of tune with each other. Willie Johnson, who was born in Senatobia, Mississippi, on March 24, 1923, played with Howlin' Wolf as far back as 1942. He played on a number of Sun sessions before recording with Lewis. Soon afterwards he headed for Chicago to rejoin Wolf's band where he remained until 1961. Sammy Lewis continued working in Memphis after Johnson moved north, working with an assortment of bands. Lewis was influenced by Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter on his Sun recordings. He went on to cut sides for the West Memphis 8th Street label and was thought to have died until he was rediscovered in 1970, still playing in West Memphis.

RUF RECORDS SIGNS ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD & WILL RELEASE THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED CD,

RUF RECORDS SIGNS ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD & WILL RELEASE THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED CD, PRODUCED BY

GRAMMY-WINNER JIM GAINES, ON MAY 8

CYRIL NEVILLE, DEVON ALLMAN AND MIKE ZITO JOIN FORCES WITH CHARLIE WOOTON & YONRICO SCOTT TO FORM A RIGHTEOUS REGALITY OF

SOUTHERN BLUES-ROCK

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Ruf Records announces the signing of Royal Southern Brotherhood, which consists of Cyril Neville (percussion and vocals), Devon Allman (guitar and vocals), Mike Zito (guitar and vocals), Charlie Wooton (bass) and Yonrico Scott (drums), and will release the group’s debut self-titled CD on May 8. The new CD was produced by Grammy-winner Jim Gaines and recorded at Dockside Studio near Lafayette, Louisiana. Ruf Records is distributed in the U.S. by the Allegro Corporation.

Fans can get a preview of the new songs when the band does an early northeastern swing of dates, including a very special “After-Party” late show at B.B. King’s in New York City on March 9, the opening night of The Allman Brothers Band annual concert series at the Beacon Theater.

Royal Southern Brotherhood unites two legendary roots-rock bloodlines along with a rising star guitarist and an in-the-pocket rhythm section for one of the most highly-anticipated albums of the past decade. What started out as a rumor and a few informal local gigs at various New Orleans venues has developed into a full-fledged powerhouse of soulful sound that’s rockin,’ funky and all-together groove-a-licious. Incubated in the heat and humidity of a New Orleans summer in 2010, Cyril, Devon and Mike crossed paths and set in motion the beginnings of what would become Royal Southern Brotherhood, beginning with jams held at a secluded studio in the city’s Garden District. When the musical sparks began to fly and the personal chemistry coalesced, the trio began to explore the real idea of forming a band to bring this new music to life. Their debut show last September at the city’s Rock ‘n’ Bowl tore the roof off the place and launched a horde of YouTube videos that burned across the internet.

Royal Southern Brotherhood has it all: incendiary playing with the twin lead guitars of Allman and Zito, coupled with Neville’s funky percussion work and the rhythm section of Wooton and Scott that literally kicks ass; lead vocals and three-part harmonies that drip with soul and passion; and a boatload of songs that deliver on the promise of what the band brings to the table with its musical chops.

Cyril Neville is a part of the first family of New Orleans roots and funk. Beginning in the 1970s, Neville soared both as a solo performer and as a member in a host of other groups, most notably the iconic band, The Meters. Cyril went on to add his percussion and vocals to such classic Meters albums as Cabbage Alley (1972) and Fire on the Bayou (1975) and joined the group when they were personally invited by Mick Jagger to open the Rolling Stones stadium tour of 1975. Also included in his long resume is work with another legend, The Neville Brothers, as well as with Bob Dylan, Bono, Willie Nelson, Galactic and his own band, Tribe 13.

Although Devon Allman grew up in St. Louis apart from his father, one listen to his smoky vocals demonstrates that apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Coupled with a guitar style that would have made his uncle Duane proud, Devon set out to create his own place in the music world, forming the band Honeytribe in 1999 and touring all over the world. His blues-rock style of guitar work and soulful singing clearly stamped him as an emerging light within the blues-rock realm. He’s had a Top 10 hit in Spain with Javier Vargas, recorded on albums with the legendary Jack Bruce and jammed with musical heavyweights Les Paul and Bill Gibbons. And he’s even been known to show up onstage with that group his daddy still leads after over 40 years, The Allman Brothers Band.

Former St. Louis native Mike Zito has been a rising star in blues for the past several years, both as a performer and a producer. He’s already picked up some hardware within the blues world, having won the Blues Music Award in 2010 as “Song of the Year” for the title track of Pearl River, which he co-wrote with Cyril Neville. Mike’s currently nominated for another BMA, this time as “Rock Blues Album” for his latest CD, Greyhound. With Zito having been a former St. Louis touring circuit contemporary of Devon Allman, the meeting of the two in the RSB was destined as an organic serendipity.

Forming the rock-solid foundation of the band and stirring up the musical gumbo sound of Royal Southern Brotherhood are bassist Charlie Wooton and drummer Yonrico Scott, both with ties to Atlanta (Wooton now lives in New Orleans). Before relocating to the Crescent City, Wooton’s snaky bass lines were a mainstay of the Atlanta club circuit, playing with his own band, as well as Zydefunk and jamming with the Wood Brothers. Yonrico Scott’s drumming was a featured part with his long-time membership in The Derek Trucks Band. He’s also played with a host of others including the Col. Bruce Hampton and Ike Stubblefield aggregations and jammed onstage with Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett and The Allman Brothers Band.

Royal Southern Brotherhood will tour extensively in support of their new CD, including both club showcases, as well as festival performances, such as the Baton Rouge Blues Festival on April 14. The band is managed and booked by Reuben M. Williams of The Thunderbird Management Group (985-798-5665; thunderbird@viscom.net). The special will air on B.B. King’s Bluesville Channel and is hosted by Bill Wax, “Proprietor of Low-Fi's Bar and Pool Hall,” who talked with Guy Davis about the making of this unique new “audio play” album, which is being released nationally February 21 on his Smokeydoke Records label.

Here is the schedule of the airtimes for the Guy Davis Sirius XM special:

Wednesday, February 15 at 1 PM Eastern Time

Saturday, February 18 at Midnight Eastern Time

Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 PM Eastern Time

The airing of the special coincides with the upcoming performances of Guy’s one-man play on which the album is based at the historic Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, February 16-26. For more information on the play’s performances, go to www.CrossroadsTheatreCompany.org.

The Adventures of Fishy Waters: In Bed with the Blues marks the debut on disc for the production Guy Davis has performed off and on since 1994, and he’ll also perform a 10-15 minute segment from the play as part of his regular tour date shows. The new CD features a number of Guy Davis original compositions, as well as songs by such blues icons as Robert Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Willie McTell and Big Bill Broonzy. The album is a “road story” in the truest sense. Guy Davis performs the stories and songs in character as “Fishy Waters,” who traveled throughout the south meeting a host of vivid characters and creating a lasting impression that is at times humorous and playful, at others mysterious and sometimes intensely powerful.

“Story telling is the most ancient, most powerful magic of the universe,” says Guy Davis, son of acclaimed actors Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. “I grew up in a house full of story tellers. I met many more through the years but family members such as my grandpa Marshall (my mom’s dad) and my father were among the very best. My grandpa was famous for his rascally tales and jokes but every once in a while he’d tell about the time his mom killed and cooked his pet chicken and he didn’t realize it until after he had eaten it! My dad could tell a story over and over and make it fun every time. All these factors came together in my life and were helpful to me in writing The Adventures Of Fishy Waters: In Bed With The Blues.”

In addition to being a recipient of the “Keeping the Blues Alive Award,” Guy Davis has been nominated for 10 Blues Music Awards from the Blues Foundation. Over the years, his albums have drawn critical praise and honors from such media outlets as National Public Radio, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Chronicle and Acoustic Guitar magazine. Among his many career highlights include performing at Pete Seeger's 90th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden (leading Steve Earle, Warren Haynes, and the SNL Band in Pete's “False From True,” a song Guy recorded for the Seeger tribute album, Where Have All the Flowers Gone). Also on that show were Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Ben Harper and a “Who's Who” of the folk world. Guy's also opened for the legendary Jethro Tull, with Ian Anderson joining him onstage every night.

Davis has recently been dubbed “The Ambassador of the Blues” following performances in 2011 in Greenland, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands (the first-ever shows sponsored by the Ministry of Culture on those enchanted islands), Denmark and Spain.

Guy Davis is managed by Thom Wolke Management and booked by Piedmont Talent. For more information, visit www.guydavis.com.

John Primer at the Rhythm Room - Phoenix, AZ

I had the pleasure of seeing John Primer at the Rhythm Room this weekend. If you don't know the Rhythm Room it's the kind of place that you want to go see a real blues band. Dark, great acoustics, beer... and great music. John was joined onstage by Bob Corritore and the Rhythm Room Allstars as well as Barrellhouse Chuck. Primer played two nights this weekend and from what I could see it was pretty much packed both nights. If you haven't seen Primer, he lays out a solid set of Chicago style blues just mixing in a little soul (and even some Marshall Tucker - "Can't You See"). Primer is a fine guitar player as well as vocalist and Bob Corritore is a great harp player although the place was so packed that Bobs harp was a little sucked up by the bodies... lot of great riffs but in some cases you had to strain to hear his soloing. The rest of the band wasn't too loud... just the highs of his harp weren't cuttting through...but the tone was golden. Primer plays primarily a Epi Casino and it sounded great. They started at 9:15p and played till 1:15a with only a short intermission. Barrelhouse Chuck who played as a featured guest of the allstars actually played a few numbers during the break as well. it was a great night of entertainment and oh yeah...Rolling Rock behind the bar!

One comment I have to make is as the crowd gets older the harder it is for them to stay up past 12. The crowd thinned a little in the last 45 minutes and I'm sorry for the players as they may have taken it for a disapproval of their performance but I got to tell you...those who stayed were really in for a treat. In my honest opinion, the best part of the concert was the last 25-30 minutes. Primer donned a Les Paul and played a number of slide numbers. He played slide earlier in the show as well...but the last few songs were killer. I wasn't in a state of mind to determine which but I suspect in alternate tuning... think Elmore James! Corritore also stepped up more and overall the mix was just perfect at the end. If you left early...good for me!!

In any case, it was a great show and if John is coming your way...don't leave early!!

I 55 Artist: The Witch Doctors- Looking For A Bone - New Release Review

I just received and have had the opportunity to listen to the new Witch Doctors release, Looking For A Bone. The recording includes 14 tracks which are all written or co written by Don Cook who handles Lead vocals and lead guitars. The recording opens with Looking For A Bone, a Texas style blues with plenty of guitar. Bad Luck is a bluesy rock song with catchy hooks and vocal harmonies reminiscent of Eric Clapton mixes. Susan Buel, the female lead singer's voice puts me in mind of Bonnie Bramlett... not a bad thing! You're Outta Control follows in the footsteps of Jimmy Rogers with the Latin rhythm that turns to a full swing. Great tune. The Rib is a straight out Chicago blues numbers with great harp by Blind Mississippi Morris and smokin' guitar riffs throughout. A real stomper. Takin' It One Day At A Time is a straight forward blues rock song in the vein of Bonnie Raitt. Next Little Town is an uptempo delta style blues played primarily on resonator. That's Gotta Change is a great funky blues and a really great break in the middle of the recording. Distraction is based on Bo Diddley's but doesn't limit itself by tradition. There are some real nice instrumentals contained inside and also the basic riff is modified in a more modern way. Over and Done is an Otis Rush style blues which is certain to capture everyone's attention. Cook takes the time to grab you by the short hairs on this one and give you a shake. I Know Your Girl is more of a pop type song again geared toward airplay. It's well constructed. Warning Sign is a great little blues number played over basic key rhythm. Very effective. Love Thang is a prime rock blues with slide throughout. Living The Blues is a soulful song with Buel again taking the vocal lead and Cook focusing on the guitar riffing with effects reminiscent of Mark Knoffler. The final song is Surf's Up. It's a straight out surf song and it's always cool to hear one of these come up on a blues cd.

Sorry...No Video!
Really cool cd and from a band I hope to hear more of. Great job!

Walter Trout announces new album and UK tour

Walter Trout's 21st album Blues for the Modern Daze will be released in the UK on Monday 23rd April (24th April in the US). The new album showcases the contemporary guitar legend’s return to his hardcore blues roots, with songwriting at a creative and personal zenith. Blues For The Modern Daze is Trout’s sixth recording for Provogue Records, a division of the Mascot Label Group, and his first full-fledged blues album in 23 years as a bandleader.

Trout’s practical schooling in blues started when he arrived in Los Angeles in 1973 and secured gigs behind Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Finis Tasby, Pee Wee Crayton, Lowell Fulsom, Percy Mayfield and Joe Tex. By 1981 he joined the remaining original members of Canned Heat.

The real turning point for Trout was his tenure with British blues giant John Mayall. Trout became part of the Bluesbreakers’ lineage of great guitarists along with Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor.

Beginning in 1984 he shared six-string duties with Coco Montoya in Mayall’s band, creating a flexible guitar dynamic that helped provide the Bluesbreakers a renaissance that returned the group to the apex of the international blues touring circuit.

Trout began leading his own group in 1989 and cut his debut album Life In the Jungle, and rapidly became a star in Europe. His first US release, 1998's critically heralded Walter Trout, made him a permanent fixture of the American blues-rock scene that he is today.

Trout's travels over the past 39 years, and his wide appreciation of his predecessors, yield a significant influence on his new album Blues For The Modern Daze.

"My main inspiration for this album,” says Trout, “was the country bluesman Blind Willie Johnson, an early blues innovator who recorded such timeless gospel informed blues numbers as Soul of a Man and Nobody’s Fault But Mine. His music is beautiful, primal, direct and deeply spiritual. I wanted to feel it at my back when we were cutting these songs.”

Continues Trout, “The new album explores a side of my music that’s rooted in my first musical love, and it reveals something about me, too. It sums up the thoughts and attitudes of somebody who is getting a little older and is feeling like he’s a part of another era, with different values and a different perspective on life that’s prevalent today. I stand behind compassion, authenticity and honesty, as strongly as I stand behind my music.”

Blues for the Modern Daze was recorded at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood, California, with Trout and engineer Eric Corne producing. It’s the fifth time Trout has collaborated with Corne, who contributed to the arrangements and sonic palette of the songs that Trout wrote and demoed on acoustic guitar during the year before the sessions.
