I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Dayna Kurtz To Perform on WNKU'S Studio 89 Monday Oct. 28

Northport N.Y. - Dayna Kurtz is back from her European tour that took her to Madrid, Amsterdam and London. She is supporting her June release Secret Canon Vol. 2. Dayna will be doing a special show at the A3 station, WNKU in Cincinnati. Click on the photo for more details.

Since the release of Secret Canon Vol. 2 on June 4, Dayna has done a bunch of great interviews. Here's a sampling:

1. Dayna Kurtz on WBGO with host Michael Bourne recorded earlier this month:

2. Earlier in the year Dayna was recorded at Chickie Wah Wah in New Orleans for the syndicated radio program "New Orleans All The Way The Live." The show is an intimate look at Dayna and her music hosted by George Ingmire of WWOZ.

A singer of profound emotional resonance and physical strength, Kurtz is her usual chameleonic self here, seamlessly weaving from the blues to jazz to country soul.
James Reed/Boston Globe

There is a lot of New Orleans in the rhythms of Secret Canon Vol. 2 - See more at: http://www.thealternateroot.com/rack-2/1552-dayna-kurtz-secret-canaon-vol-2#sthash.svjo69gM.dpuf
Dayna Kurtz's Secret Canon, Vol. 2  is a collection of uncovered blues and R&B gems from the 1940's-1960's. Dayna researched music for this project for months to come up with just the right material. In addition, Secret Canon, Vol. 2  contains a few of Dayna's smoky and seductive originals. The sessions for the recording took place in New York as well as Danya's new home in New Orleans.

In the hands of Guy and a few of his peers, the traditional blues forms remain timeless – as relevant in 2013 as they were 30, 50 or 80 years ago.

Juba Dance has its heart in the exact right place.
Something Else

Weaving through the rhythms and musical narrations of this 13-track, stripped down acoustic recording are the American storytelling traditions that Guy Davis has pulled from since he came on the scene in 1978. Original Davis compositions played alongside choice covers of iconic pre-war blues figures Blind Lemon Jefferson, Rev. Robert Wilkins, and Blind Willie McTell provide a seamless musical hand-off that is as familiar and undulating as their source in the southern countryside. What in lesser hands could have descended into easy sentimentalism instead comes together under Davis’ passionate musicianship into an original and soaring sonic journey. Juba Dance has feet planted in worlds both old and new; in blues, folk, and our country’s singular, rich African American musical heritage, and it impresses with every step how vital to our understanding of American life these authentic musical forms still are today.

Guy Davis is an artist who has excelled in many disciplines; he is a musician, composer, actor, director, and writer. He has received accolades and praise for his performance off-Broadway as the legendary Robert Johnson in “Robert Johnson: Trick The Devil,” winning the Blues Foundation's "Keeping the Blues Alive Award”.  Likewise, he received rave reviews for his appearance on Broadway in “Finian's Rainbow,” playing the part originally played by the legendary Sonny Terry.  He has been nominated for nearly a dozen Blues Awards and has performed on such shows as Prairie Home Companion, Late Show With David Letterman and Late Night With Conan O'Brien.
