Overton Music artist: Russ Green - Stone Cold - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold , from Russ Green , and it's a driving blues rocker. Opening with Lint Redux , you are immediately in the middle of a swampy blues with modern effects. With a firm foot stomp by Felix Pollard on drums and Vic Jackson on bass Russ Green on harmonica and vocals really has the earthy feel. Giles Corey on slide gives the track great grease and Green's harp work is strong. Excellent opener. 12 Feet of Water opens with a terrific harmonica aria before grinding into a super drum driven romp. With the feel that I can only describe as Hill Country , Green delivers such soulful vocals, comforted by Joe Monroe on keys, this track just grabs you. Green's harmonica is like a shuddering wind blowing through you with the thumping bass of Vic Jackson and Vince Agwada on guitar. Excellent! At Annual Music Awards Event

Winners to be announced May 21st


Ruidoso NM (April 24th) - The New Mexico Music Awards recently announced that the 2016 fall release by Montrose Records "DOS" featuring Richard Cagle and the Voodoo Choir has garnered three finalist positions in three separate categories:   "DOS" Best Rock CD of the Year, "Slow Blues" Best Blues Song of the Year, and "Richard Cagle" for Producer of the Year Award.  Excitement continues to mount as the final decisions will be announced on May 21st at the annual music event which is going to be held at the Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque.  Rich Cagle commented, "We are very grateful to have reached such a plateau already, and even if it doesn't go any further, we are honored to have been nominated."

About the Event - Every year, music industry professionals come from throughout the state to this, the largest and most prestigious music awards show in New Mexico. It is an opportunity for the New Mexico music industry to network and to applaud their peers for the work they do in New Mexico.  This year the 30th Annual New Mexico Music Awards and show will feature a welcome reception, prime rib dinner followed by performances from some of New Mexico’s best artists. During the course of the evening they will recognize those artists, engineers, producers, and music industry personnel who’s recordings have excelled in production, performance, and composition.

Who Was Charles LoBue

Charles LoBue was one of the fathers of the custom electric guitar business. Charles came to the industry after taking classes from Michael Gurian, first working in and around the guitar repair business in NYC in the mid 60's. Charles' interest in the business began by doing basic repairs on factory made guitars. These were primarily made by Gibson and Fender, the "Gold Standard" for electric guitars, as well as any guitar including acoustics which came through the door. As a professional player in the U.S. in the 60's, Gibson and Fender were the most likely choices if you wanted an electric guitar. It is well known that the Brits used European made guitars as well, primarily due to their accessibility.
