Move, Daniel - Cora Fluker

Cora Fluker was born in Livingston, Alabama, around 1920. When Denise and I visited her in 1997 it was a deeply moving experience. She told us of a childhood growing up sharecropping with her family. The conditions were so hard that she tried to run away at the age of nine only to be caught by the white landowner and beaten nearly to death. She showed us the scars on her back and seemed deeply haunted by this awful memory. She then broke out a testimony abouther life and what led her to her praying ground under a pecan tree where she had a vision of Jesus and since devoted her life to preaching. When she sangand preached her voice had the power of a saxophone. The last time I visitedCora she was in ill health and unable to sing. She told me of how all music came from the air and if I lived right we would meet again in heaven.

Bman's Exclusive Interview - Jay Gordon

Bman: Hi Jay. I appreciate you taking time out from your schedule to talk with me. First I want to congratulate you on your new release "No Cure". I hits like a freight train! I'm guessing that you're getting pretty good reviews all around.

Jay: Thank you for digging the CD, I like your comment Blues Venom - No Cure "It hits like a freight train"!
Yes, I'm getting great reviews from all over the world, also a lot of air play. (radio) As we speak the list is getting bigger.

Bman: I've never really heard anything quite like what you're doing. Some of the components sound familiar but not at all in this context. How long has your band been together and how do the other members influence your sound?

Jay: My music is original, I have my own distinct sound on guitar and vocally. I don't want to sound like all the clones out there trying to interpret their favorite guitar/band heroes. It's all about finding your own voice and standing as an artist on your own terms.

The musicians I put together for this cd Blues Venom - no cure have worked with me many times over the years and we have a certain chemistry that makes this project work. All my cd's are guitar driven, but Sharon and I wanted to do something completely different so I brought in the Keyboards and the harmonica to give the songs a nice back wash and still give the guys room to solo. As far as the overall sound of the band, they are all pro players and we just have a tight groove together.

JAY GORDON - LEAD GUITAR, SLIDE GUITAR AND VOCALS, SHARON BUTCHER - BASS GUITAR AND VOCALS, RICH GORDON LAMBERT - DRUMS
HARLEN SPECTOR - HAMMOND B3 AND PIANO
SPECIAL GUEST
MARIO RAMIREZ (younger brother of Richie Valens) - MISSISSIPPI SAXAPHONE, RICH WENZEL - HAMMOND B3 & PIANO
Produced By - Jay Gordon
Mixed By - Rich Wenzel
Musical Arrangements By - Jay Gordon And Sharon Butcher
Bonus Tracks Mixed and Produced By - Jay Gordon
Recorded At - Ardent Audio Productions
Engineer - Rich Wenzel
Pro Tools Engineer - Rich Wenzel

Bman: Do you write the music alone or is it a collaborative effort?

Jay: 99% of the time I write the music and the lyrics, lately the only other person I write with is Sharon Butcher.
On this cd, we wrote World Blues together.

Bman: I have pretty broad listening tastes and I hear different things that a lot of other people don't hear...or so I've been told. I hear early British blues like TYA in your basis yet the guitar style is really more predominantly Rod Price on slide but with a bit of distortion in the amp I think and Frank Marino and EVH on the articulated lead with musically minor overtones. Your vocal and harmonies could be heard over a contemporary euro metal band but the harmonica sound is genuine Chicago. Makes for an interesting mix.

Jay: By your comment I guess you have read some of the reviews, which are interesting because everyone has a different set of ears.

Since it is a guitar driven cd critics and reviewers all have a different opinion of the influences that they hear in ones playing.

So they always compare that artist to other players in that genre of music. I have been compared to guys like Johnny Winter,Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Alvin Lee, and Frank Marino, Warren Haynes even shades of Yngwie Malmsteen etc.

Which is nice because all these guys are great players, which is all right because it puts me in the right company.

Here is a quote from Andy Grigg - Real Blues Magazine:
Jay doesn’t sound like any of his predecessors and has long had his own distinctive voice. Never interested in merely recreating the past, Jay has moved the blues forward to the 21st century, infusing the music with the fire and power of rock while carving out his own place in the music world.
Gordon has recorded 14 CDs, headlined his own European tours and gained a worldwide reputation.

He was one of 50 guitarists picked by Eric Clapton (who was very impressed after hearing one of Jay's CDs) to perform at the 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival.
Jay has played and opened up for many famous artist, such as, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Paul Rogers, and Bad Co., 38 Special, BB King, Def Leopard, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Montgomery Gentry and many more. Jay also played to 250,000 screaming fans at Sturgis, S.D. several times.
The whole concept behind my music is to promote the blues, keep it alive, show it's true art form, take it to a higher level and still be able to play rock and roll while showing the marriage between blues and rock in my own style.

Bman: Yeah. I know what you're saying. You're just playing what's in your head. I really haven't heard anything like what you are doing. I understand that you're working on a number of other projects right now. Can you tell me about them and how they differ from "No Cure"?

Jay: I have a few projects in the works right now, an all slide guitar record ... also the "Best of the Blues" a complication of all original songs off previous albums. The next studio album will be in the same mode as blues Venom with a few new surprises.

I'm in the process of putting a European tour together for next spring/summer and also working on getting some songs on TV and in motion pictures.

Bman: What's the timing on the next release?

Jay: Possibly next year. I'm always writing, so when it hits me that will be the right time.

Bman: With all of this time on the studio, are you getting any time for the road? Do you have a favorite venue?

Jay: As far as the road is concerned, we are looking forward to hitting the road, as long as the tours are put together in the proper manner.

My favorite venue is anything with a large stage, great sound system and a full audience. From Clubs to Concerts to Festivals.

This way my publicist, Doug "The Bull Dog" Deutsch can work his magic.

Bman: Well, good luck with "No Cure". I appreciate your time and hope to hear the next of your projects really soon!

Thank you for the interview Bman.

Blues Faithfully, Rock on,

Jay Gordon

TOM HAMBRIDGE WINS BLUES BLAST MUSIC AWARD AS SONG OF THE YEAR FOR “LIVING PROOF”

TOM HAMBRIDGE WINS BLUES BLAST MUSIC AWARD AS SONG OF THE YEAR FOR

“LIVING PROOF”

DURING HIS PERFORMANCE AT THE AWARDS SHOW, TOM WAS JOINED ONSTAGE BY

BUDDY GUY

CHICAGO, IL – Musician and producer Tom Hambridge, whose latest CD, Boom!, continues to generate rave reviews and significant radio airplay, won the 2011 Blues Blast Music Award for “Song of the Year” in ceremonies Thursday night (October 27) at Buddy Guy’s Legends club in Chicago. Appropriately, Hambridge won the award for the title track he wrote on Buddy Guy’s hit album, Living Proof, which Tom also produced. Living Proof also won for “Contemporary Blues CD” and Buddy Guy won additional honors as “Male Blues Artist.” The entire show was broadcast live on radio station WGLT-FM and available on the internet.

Tom Hambridge, currently on tour as special guest with ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd, played his own show earlier that night in Rockford, Illinois, before driving to Chicago, where he promptly performed a short set at the awards show. Tom sang and played drums, accompanied by Buddy Guy band keyboardist Marty Sammon, as well as bassist Melvin Smith and guitarist Peter Galanis, treating the crowd to his songs, “Get Off,” from his Bang ‘n’ Roll album, and “Upside of Lonely” off his new CD. The crowd went wild when Tom then brought the legend himself, Buddy Guy, up onstage to sing “Let the Door Knob Hit Ya’” (which Tom co-wrote with Buddy) off his Living Proof album.

Since it’s release in late August, Boom! has generated tremendous critical acclaim for Tom Hambridge. Here’s a sampling:

“Boom! is a fun and well-crafted studio album that highlights the work of a solid group of musicians, the talent of a gifted singer/songwriter and a collection of memorable songs that may help Hambridge finally find the kind of commercial success as a solo artist that he has so often received as a producer and composer in the past.”

- J. Blake, American Blues News

“Roots rock is the new country and ex-Bostonian Tom Hambridge is the style's current MVP. That's a role he played for years in Beanburg, leading the redoubtable bar band T.H. & the Wreckage and playing drums for legends like Chuck Berry and Roy Buchanan. But after producing Susan Tedeschi's Grammy-nominated Just Won't Burn, he skedaddled to Nashville and raised the ante by climbing up the Americana charts with his solo discs, winning Grammies with Buddy Guy and co-writing massive hits for Keith Anderson, Gretchen Wilson, and other mainstream sharpies. On Boom!, Hambridge pokes every corner of his roots, rock, and blues bag, nailing down grinders like the six-string slider ‘Never Gonna Change’ and the clever heartbreaker ‘Upside of Lonely’ with the help of ringers from Delbert McClinton's versatile band. He also reclaims the stinger ‘I Got Your Country Right Here,’ which was a hit for Wilson. His voice has grown some growl and sprung a drawl, but both suit him well as he delivers these roadhouse anthems with double-shots of conviction.” - Ted Drozdowski, Boston Phoenix

“It just might be true that the best rock ‘n’ roll music today is coming out of Nashville, Tennessee, the home of country music. Tom Hambridge’s new CD, Boom!, makes a convincing argument for the truth to that statement. Boom! showcases Tom in all his disguises; first call studio drummer, outstanding vocalist, Grammy® Award-Winning Producer, ASCAP Award winning singer/songwriter, and Blues Music Award winner on multiple occasions. This is roots rock at its best, with its feet firmly spread all over the musical map of influence; blues, 60’s rock n roll, country, southern rock, and folk.” – Robert Carraher, The Dirty Lowdown

Ruf Records artist: My Home is a Prison - JW-JONES

Here's a cool blues tune from JW - Jones!JW-Jones has one of the most energetic and exciting live shows on the scene. Lord Have Mercy On Me - Sean Costello

Sean Costello (April 16, 1979 – April 15, 2008) was an American blues musician, renowned for his fiery guitar playing and soulful singing. He released five critically acclaimed albums before his career was cut short by his sudden death at the age of 28. Tinsley Ellis called him ‘the most gifted young blues guitarist on the scene... he was a triple threat on guitar, vocals and as a songwriter’.
Sean Costello was found dead in his Atlanta hotel room on April 15, 2008.[28] A medical report later determined that he died of an accidental drug overdose. Posthumously, Costello's family revealed that he had suffered from Bipolar disorder, and set up the Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research in his honor.

Up All Night Thinking - Dave Hole

Dave Hole (born David Robert Hole, 30 March 1948, Heswall, Cheshire, England) is an Australian slide guitarist known for his style of playing rock and roll and blues music.
Hole was born in England, but his family moved to Perth, Western Australia when he was four years old. He became interested in blues music after hearing a school friend's Muddy Waters album when he was around six years of age. Receiving his first guitar at age twelve he started to teach himself due to lack of guitar teachers being available in Perth at the time, using the albums of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Blind Willie Johnson, Skip James, Blind Lemon Jefferson. He later continued teaching himself with the albums of Robert Johnson, Elmore James, and Mississippi Fred McDowell.
Hole is left-handed and, after breaking a finger in a football accident, he played the guitar right-handed by putting the slide on his index finger and hanging his hand over the top of the guitar neck. After healing he had gotten so used to the 'wrong' way of playing that he never changed back. He became a professional in 1972 when working with a band in London and returned to Perth in 1974. He toured the Western Australian pub circuit for twenty years playing in Perth and remote towns. To keep his fans happy he released Short Fuse Blues a tape he financed, produced, and recorded with his band Short Fuse in three days in 1990, and which he sold during pub performances. On a whim he sent a copy to Guitar Player magazine in the U.S. Editor Jas Obrecht was so impressed with the tape he wrote an article hailing him as the newest guitar wizard and comparing him to such greats as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King. Soon a copy was in the hands of Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer who signed him up as the first non-U.S.-based artist of their 26-year history.

Later in the 1960s, he played with the Dixie Gentlemen and in John Hartford's Aero-Plain band.

The Mannish Boys with Kid Ramos

2010 heralds the passing of the five year anniversary mark of the birth of Delta Groove Music. Likewise, The Mannish Boys, for whom the label was originally conceived, are similarly celebrating five years of electrifying the blues for audiences the world over. The fundamental concept of the band was simple; assemble a group of like-minded musicians to capture the spirit and joy of this timeless music, and reintroduce it for a whole new generation to appreciate and discover. This project, which was only initially envisioned as a one-time testimony to the power of the blues, has now given way to a new institution privileged with the task of preserving this music and presenting it as a vital, living, breathing entity.

Fresh out of the recording studio after laying down 17 tracks for their third studio release, The Mannish Boys come to you with more polished grit than ever before. Returning to, in essence, the original core of the band, The Mannish Boys have added even more show stopping musicians to the already dynamic lineup which makes up the one band blues festival that is The Mannish Boys. Assembled from the cream of the crop of today's blues veterans and young bloods, the flexible and rotating cast of vigorous musicians and entertainers keep things interesting and fresh.

Grinding their blues to an incandescent element through appearances before sold-out crowds and on festival stages in the U.S., Canada and in Europe, The Mannish Boys have become universally praised as one of the most exciting blues projects to hit the scene in years! The current lineup features Jimi Bott on drums, Willie J. Campbell on bass, Kirk Fletcher and Franck "Paris Slim" Goldwasser on guitar, Randy Chortkoff blowing harp and the lending vocals responsibility split between, front-men Finis Tasby and resurrected soul and blues Chicago legend, Bobby Jones bringing down the house with his intensely rich B.B.-esque vocals.

The Mannish Boys are guaranteed to bring you a show that will forever be locked in your blues vault of experiences with live music. DO NOT miss out on your chance to see this world renowned SUPER GROUP perform on a stage near you!

Morning Train - Shelton Powe

Shelton Powe was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and raised by a family of gifted instrumentalists, singers and dancers. In keeping with family tradition, his mother would give young Shelton gifts of harmonicas and guitars at Christmas with the hopes of awakening a dormant musical aptitude to no avail.

It wasn’t until the deaths of his mother and father in the late 1980s that Shelton became reacquainted with the rhythms and melodies of the old songs his parents used to sing. Picking up the guitar as a tribute to his deceased mother, Shelton set out to learn old-time blues and gospel the way he remembered it from his childhood. Living in Georgia, he immersed himself in the blues scene of Atlanta and soon found what he was looking for. Listening to him sing and play in the Piedmont finger-style guitar tradition of his parents and elders, you find yourself back at the wellspring of the Carolina Blues tradition. His honest delivery is captivating.
A self-taught musician playing the "old style country picking” as he calls it, he has been privileged to play at various venues including Georgia Tech’s WREK’s “Friday Night Fish Fry”, WRFG’s “Good Morning Blues” as well as “Old Time Gospel” and 1280 AM Atlanta. He was also invited to perform at the Charlotte Folk Society. Shelton’s success does not end here though; he recently recorded a Blues documentary with both Tim Duffy of Music Maker and Jim Ransome. He has made several appearances at Hungry Ear Coffeehouse events and attended many “Giving It Back” festivals created by Mudcat. He has also played alongside Carlos “Breeze” Kings, Ross Pead, “Slim Fatz” Eddie Tigner, Mudcat, Bill Sheffield, “Little Brother” and Cora Mae Bryant.
The following were performing partners and friends of Shelton’s who have passed on to Blues heaven: Frank Edwards, Cootie Stark, Neal Pattman, and Sean Costello
Shelton currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Matthew Curry and the Fury

This is a medley but i think you can see that these guys can cook and this kid can not only play but sing!

Matthew Curry and The Fury deliver energized blues and blues rock along with great show. Matthew, at 16 and already a veteran performer, is astonishing audiences with his blazing guitar playing, original songs, and soulful voice. After a busy season of summer festivals, Matt and The Fury returned to the Castle Theatre on October 1 for their long-awaited CD Release Party. Audience favs like “Walk Out That Door” and“If I Don’t Got You” were on tap, and then the enthusiastic crowd was treated to the new Matthew Curry originals on the CD. Blues legend Bryan Lee says, “Hurry to hear Matthew Curry, he is the real deal! He plays from his heart, soul and mind.” Matthew has jammed with blues greats Coco Montoya, Tommy Castro, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Bernard Allison, and Bryan Lee. Ronnie Baker Brooks says, “Matthew is an awesome talent! He has a natural feel as if he was born with a guitar in his hand.” Often referred to as a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, Matthew Curry is a triple-charged musician in his own right and amping up the blues scene. Matthew and The Fury competed in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, and came back to Bloomington and got busy on the CD project. They were also one of five international finalists in Ampeg’s “Straight-Up Tone” competition. All the prep has paid off - "If I Don't Got You" has been sponsored by the Crossroads Blues Society in the Best Self-Produced CD competition for the IBC.

A taste of The Sugar Prophets

2011 International Blues Challenge Finalist, The Sugar Prophets, are an interesting amalgam of backgrounds and talent that have seemingly merged together in the right time, place, and groove. Their raw, intense energy and blue collar lyrics are both danceable and deep. The band just released their first album “The Sugar Prophets” that debuted at #16 on the Roots Music Reports Blues Radio Charts. With their long-standing talent, passion, and relatable lyrics chock full of groove and grit, the band continues to garner new fans and devoted followers wherever they play. Blending sounds across Blues, R&B, Rock, Funk, Country, Gospel, and Soul; The Sugar Prophets have the sound of a soul-inspiring locomotive heading straight to your door. Listen up and become a believer in this heartfelt message of amazing music.

I Dont Need No Doctor - Pryor Baird and the Deacons

The Pryor Baird Band stems from California's central coast, playing originals as well as traditional Blues, Roots, and Americana. Pryor Baird fronts the group, with powerful yet delicate guitar work; nimble fingers aren't his only asset. Pryor is well known for his burning slide melodies and solid rough vocals. Leading the rhythm section is Bassit, Artist Joyce (AJ); he puts down a distinctive "fat hollow sound" that drives the band along. The man on the downbeat is none other than Gabriel Riley II, drummer extrodinaire, whether it's laying it back slow or driving it through the roof, gabe has got it naied. Mike Torres Jr adds to the band his melodic keyboard expertise. This is a band that can take a blues standard and make it sound brand new. You don't hardly get this combination of musical talent everyday.

Route 66 - Eddie Tigner

Eddie Tigner was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Macon, Georgia. After his father died from mustard gas in World War I, his mother married a coal miner who moved the family to a mining camp in Kentucky. Eddie fondly remembers listening to bluegrass and country and western music as a child. When he was 14, the family returned South to Atlanta, and Eddie started following his piano-playing mother to house parties, breakdowns, fish fries, and barbecues, where she was in demand as an entertainer.

Eddie didn't learn to play the piano himself, however, until he began his service in the Army in 1945 and was taught by a friend, Edward Louis, at a base in Maryland. Eddie was in charge of booking entertainment at the special service hall each weekend, and often drove to Baltimore to pick up Bill Kenney (of the original Ink Spots) and his group to perform for the servicemen.

Returning to Atlanta after his discharge, Eddie joined the Musicians' Union in 1947 and put together his first group, the Maroon Notes, in which he played vibes. They performed in vaudeville shows at theaters in Atlanta, and often toured through small towns as far as the West Coast of Florida. Eddie also played with legendary blues guitarist Elmore James during the early '50s, when James was living in Atlanta. They performed on weekends at the Lithonia Country Club, which featured all-black motorcycle and stock car races each Saturday.

In 1959, a version of the Ink Spots--one of several that traversed the country playing hotel lounges using the name of the original group-- had a show in Atlanta and needed a pianist. Eddie joined the band and performed steadily as an "Ink Spot" until 1987, booked throughout this entire period by T.D. Kemp of Charlotte, N.C.

These days, Eddie "feeds the children" at his job in an elementary school cafeteria, but he's also been playing in small clubs around Atlanta since 1991. Atlanta guitarist Danny "Mudcat" Dudeck introduced Eddie to the Music Maker Relief Foundation, and he has since appeared at major events including the Chicago Blues Festival and the Blues to Bop Festival in Lugano, Switzerland.

Juke House Blues - Slick Ballinger

What would make one of the fastest rising blues musicians in the United States walk away from his dream? By music industry standards, Slick Ballinger was well on his way to stardom. Born May 26, 1984, this young man with an old soul developed an intense love and appreciation of Traditional Blues that led the native North Carolinian to make numerous pilgrimages to Mississippi, Arkansas, and Memphis, Tennessee, fueling his musical ability along the way. Before the age of 18 he had played with legendary artists: Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, Otha Turner, "Steady Rollin" Bob Margolin, Calvin "Fuzz" Jones, Big Bill Morganfield, Henry Butler, Blind Mississippi Morris, T-Model Ford, and North Carolina's, Algia Mae Hinton.

40th Anniversary of Duane Allman's Passing 40th Anniversary of Duane Allman's Passing
On his 22nd birthday, a sick Duane Allman was given a bottle of pills for his fever by younger brother Gregg. Duane emptied the bottle and used it as a slide to play Blind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues." So was born a sound essential and unique to The Allman Brothers, formed four months later. The humble man with blistering guitar licks was gone before he reached 25. We celebrate the music we still love with a gift thru Sunday October 30th - use promo code DUANE at checkout to get 40% off this photo of Duane, taken by legendary photographer Joe Sia.

This 1975 concert features much of Beck's classic jazz-fusion Blow by Blow album played with a killer band that included Bernard Purdie on drums. Making his guitar plead, weep, wail and sweetly sigh throughout this instrumental set, it's a fantastic example of Beck's volatile, yet sophisticated, playing. This weekend, we're also offering this new release at half price - grab the mp3's for $5 or the FLAC's for $7 and enjoy this Jeff Beck show on the go.

In 1974, the New York Jazz Repertory Company staged a Carnegie Hall program celebrating the heyday of the jazz scene along Manhattan's 52nd Street. A Count Basie Tribute Band re-created the big band swing that Basie packed in to the Famous Door, the John Kirby Tribute Band played some 1930s classics that could be heard at the Onyx, and the Billy Taylor Jazz All-Stars represented the bebop movement that was cultivated in Harlem and popularized in Midtown. All three sets are now available for streaming and download, so dig in....

This playlist re-creates a vintage King Biscuit Flower Hour Halloween broadcast from 1985. With songs by Edgar Winter, Warren Zevon, the Stray Cats, Meat Loaf, Santana, Ozzy Osbourne, BIlly Idol and many more, the program was narrated by talented voice actor, Frank Welker, who portrayed some enjoyably silly ghouls to introduce the music. This King Biscuit Halloween mix may not make you jump out of your skin from fright, but you will probably find yourself singing along with delight. Happy trick-or-treating!

Singer-songwriter-guitarist John Enghauser returns to San Fran for a special show at the popular Vin Club,

John Enghauser

"Skillful artist whose amiable, laid-back recordings demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, especially in his acoustic guitar and the way instruments are placed in the mix...what's distinctive about his brand of pop-rock is its decided smooth-jazz influence in some of the guitar interludes ("Blame") and in his use of the Rhodes keys." MUSIC CONNECTION

Watch a live performance by John Engahuser of the title track from "Lost In The Pages" at the Whiskey A Go-Go in Hollywood here:

"There's something cool happening in the local singer/songwriter scene. Catchy tunes are the order of the day. There's a fusion of influence coming from soul and prog rock. I wish I could make up a genre name for it right now. John Enghauser has his original take on the sound. His new release, LOST IN THE PAGES, is getting the notice it deserves..." John Enghauser Live at Slim's

In addition to performing all vocals, John plays guitar, bass and keyboards on Lost In The Pages (Blue Pie Records), which has been played in 13 countries worldwide including England, Australia, Germany, France, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S.

Among Enghauser's favorite songs on "Lost In The Pages" is "Cognition, Inc." "This is a funky re-tooling of a tune I wrote with my former band, Jamawokee. It's a completely different song now and I even changed up the lyrics a bit. The lyric is still one of my favorites. It's a satire which pokes fun of the American media and how much they shape our lives in the way we think and do things without us even knowing it. Think about how often you do, say, wear and buy things based on what you've seen, heard or read in the media. Cognition, Inc. is this big mind-controlling machine that we all submit to which claims to fulfill all of our wildest dreams. We all buy into it, but at what cost?" On a more sensitive note, "So Many People" is "an ode to Jaco Pastorius, the ingenious fusion bassist who died tragically. His biography is the most fascinating story I've ever read. I think it's the only book I've ever read twice. This is one of my favorite songs and one of the best composing jobs I think I've ever done. Sometimes when I listen to the complexities of it I can't believe it came from me. And it grooves so hard! What's ironic about the way I recorded the song is that it's the only time I played the bass line with a pick. I don't think Jaco ever played with a pick in his life."
