I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

The Cell - Memories - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Memories, from The Cell and it covers a lot of ground. Opening with Still In Love With Her, a solid rocker, The Cell exhibits strong roots with a great bass line, tight drums, snorting guitar riffs, cool piano and horns. Blues Communion stirs a taste of metal into the rock flavored blues. Deep male vocals and female backing blends nicely with slide guitar and an ominous bass line and harp. Very cool. With a definite country flavor, Rusty Girl features female lead vocals and nicely blended horn and slide work. A definite radio track. Moody Blue has a nice, bluesy, ZZ Top kind of feel. A cool key interlude and hot blues guitar riffs make this one of my favorites on the release. With a bit of honky tonk, Rollin Man has a cool feel and solid piano work. A nice walking bass line and well placed vocals give this track real meat. Leslie West's The Cell, stays tight to the original, a heavy rocker.  Wrapping the release is Greg Allman's Midnight Rider, a quiet almost acoustic soft rocker with nice rhythm, vocals and slide guitar work. I cool conclusion to a solid release.

New Release: Keepin' On , Rollin' Hard - The Cell - Review

I just received and had the opportunity to review the new release, Keepin' On, Rollin' Hard by the Czech band called The Cell. The Cell calls themselves a Southern-Fried Bohemian Blues Rock band. It's actually a pretty good description. The recording begins with Time Of My Life which sounds like a traditional field holler but slowly melds into a full blown southern rock style anthem. Find My Way Home is more uptempo with horns and would lend itself well to airplay. Late To Say I'm Sorry is a country infused bluesy tale. Someday is a modern country rock infused ballad with nice vocal harmonies. The Blues Never Stops is a hard driving blues rock song putting you in mind of Ted Nugent. Fall Into The Sky is a country ballad. Dreams Inside My Head is a straight forward blues rock song and well constructed. The final track Down gets into a pretty nice blues rock groove and is my favorite track on the release. Great job The Cell.
