I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Blue Heart Records artist: Tomislav Goluban - 20 Years On The Road - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, 20 Years On The Road, from Tomislav Goluban and it's chocked full of great blues harp. Opening with blues rocker, Express Ride, blues harp wiz Tomislav Goluban really has it cranking, backed by the Tobacco Road Blues Band (Peter Prammerdorfer on guitar, Mike Diwald on guitar, Christian Egger on bass and Klaus Sauli on drums. On shuffle, Searchin' For My Baby features Skylar Rogers on lead vocal and she does a real nice job. With Goluban on harmonica, Hrvoje Funda on guitar, Vid Kotarski on guitar, Jurica Leikauff on keys, Tomislav Kusar on bass and Dragutin Hojsak on drums, a real nice jam. With a twist of country, Ryan Donohue leads the way on No Means No. Mike Sponza and Funda on guitars, Vid Bajevic on trumpet, Mario Sincek on trombone, Damjan Grbac on bass, and Igor Vugrek compliment Goluban on harmonica. Another track with a taste of country is Speedin' Train featuring the super vocals of Teresa James. Goluban really wails the whistle and with a solid bottom compliments of Funda, Kitarski, Leikauff, Kusar and Hojsak, this may be my favorite track on the release. Shuffle, I Can't Take It Anymore has a great feel and saturated with harmonica. Crooked Eye Tommy is upfront on vocal anchoring this bluesy track. Boggie, Everyday's Fear, has a great drive and Goluban sails, courtesy Funda, Kotarski, Jurica Leikauff, Damjan Grbac and Vugrek and featuring Kelly Zirbes on lead vocal. Wrapping the release is rock and roller,  I Love You Baby with Goluban on lead vocal. This is a solid closer for a cool release.

Mark Cameron - Back From The Edge - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Back From The Edge, from Mark Cameron and it uses blues roots to explore mostly pop branches of the rock tree. Opening with funky salted, It's Alright, with Mark Cameron on guitar and vocal, backed by Sheri Cameron on percussion, Scott Lundberg on bass, Rick Miller on harmonica and Dan Schroeder on drums, this opener has a great beat and some real nice guitar riffs. Blues shuffle, 2nd Job has a cool guitar riff and just the right harmonica tone to give the track a nice edge. Blues rocker, All There Is To It, has a solid bet and with a memorable melody, bluesy guitar runs. sax work by Sheri and fat harmonica tone by Miller, a likely radio track. Blues rooted Dollar For Liquor, has a cool bass line, nice slide by Cameron, subtle sax work by Sheri and relentless harmonica work by Miller. Wrapping the release is popp rocker, Lost and Found with nicely blended vocal harmonies and a cool melodic guitar lead. Solid closer.

COP Records artist: Mark Cameron - On A Roll - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, On A Roll, from Mark Cameron and it's a flavorful slice of contemporary blues rock. Opening with Trouble Brewin' an upbeat shuffle, Cameron on lead vocal and guitar, leads the way with Rick Miller on harp, Scott Lundberg on bass, Dan Schroeder on drums and Sheri Cameron on woodwinds. Title track, On A Roll is a solid rocker with definite radio appeal. I like Cameron's guitar phrasing and the trim beat of this track. Dicey is one of my favorite tracks on the release with a walking bass line and suspenseful feel. With it spoken lead vocal and cool backing vocals by Rick and Scott, topped by the reverb saturated guitar...very cool. A strong bass line by Lundberg and punchy horn work by Sheri really Next Stop Is The Blues off nicely. Another lively blues rocker, Movin Out has a great driving rhythm with real nice harp work by Miller and simple but tight guitar work by Cameron. Mojo Shuffle is another real nice track with a cool shuffle framework and nice bluesy guitar solo by Mark and a tight bottom. Wrapping the release is Dreams, a laid back ballad featuring mark up front on vocal over a lightly salted backing. With warm sax work by Sheri and firm bass work by Scott, this is a cool closer for a solid release.
