I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

I came across this and thought that it was a good follow up to is it a cover or a tribute... or just a cool band playing a cool song!

Sweet Relief Musicians Fund Benefit at The Coach House w/ Delta Bluesman KK Martin

K.K. Martin: Delta Blues Troubadour

"A one-man blues powerhouse whose music is routed through John Lee Hooker and Lightning Hopkins...Martin's slide work of Johnny Winter's "Dallas" and a spiritually faithful take on Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac's "Rattlesnake Shake" are two of several spots where the bad-assed bluesman-as-gunslinger attitude and ballsy playing that make this disc so worth the car time are going full throttle." VINTAGE GUITAR

"A genuine bluesman who believes in keeping it real... Martin can sing it up high or sing it down low; he's full of spirit on each of the ten tracks here, and it makes a fine sequel to his winning program on Naked Blues." SOUTHLAND BLUES

"Very adept acoustic guitarist has put together a solid CD of traditional blues tunes...finger-picking technique is a good compliment to his vocal work. This CD is worth the listen...I think you'll find it rewarding." BMAN'S BLUES REPORT

"K.K. Martin's blues are real and reality is what we all need a little bit more of these days."

Sweet Relief Musicians Fund Benefit At OC's Iconic Coach House Features Newly-Signed Rip Cat Records Artist K.K. Martin - Friday Night March 9

(San Juan Capistrano) -
IF YOU THINK PAYING GIGS is the biggest worry working musicians have these days, think again! With the cost of healthcare skyrocketing for everyone, it's a blessing that organizations such as the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund - whose mantra is "to provide assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems" - are there for assistance when they are most needed.
Delta blues picker K.K. Martin donates his time and efforts to a special event benefiting the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund at iconic Orange County concert hall The Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano, Friday, March 9. Discounted tickets $15. in advance (available through kkmartin@kkmartin.com); pay the full $20. and $5. of that goes to the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Info: (949) 496-8930 or www.thecoachhouse.com. Also on the bill: longtime Jackson Browne sideman/multi-instrumentalist, David Lindley
Martin's critically-lauded Naked Blues Vol. II will be re-mastered, re-packaged, and re-released this April by fast-rising SoCal indie label Rip Cat Records, who Martin signed with last December. K.K. joins such noted Rip Cat acts as The Blasters, White Boys James and the Blues Express, Mighty Mojo Prophets, and The 44s, among others. Showing his versatility and popularity outside music circles, Martin also recently landed an endorsement deal with Jewelry By Isis (www.guitarringsbyisis.com).
Watch a stirring live performance by K.K. Martin and his band the Roadside Revelers doing "A Good Day For the Blues" at The Coach House last year:

K.K. Martin was a founding member, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter for 80's-era band A La Carte. The group gained considerable renown as one of the most in-demand groups on the then-vibrant Sunset Strip music scene. Exposed in the womb to the music of Jimmie Rodgers. Robert Johnson and Hank Williams, he began touring with his parents at age 10. K.K. was transplanted to California in 1969 and cut his teeth on the local L.A. rock scene at age 16, landing a brief stint with the Albert Collins backup band. Martin has performed with a Who's-Who in the music business including Eric Burdon, Booker T, Rick Derringer, Johnny Winters, Blondie, and currently, Lester Chambers of famed R&B/Soul group The Chambers Brothers. K.K. was a recipient of "Outstanding Blues Artist" at the 9th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards in 1999. In the last decade, Louisiana native Martin has reconnected with his Blues roots. He toured with Lester Chambers of the 60's Chambers Brothers fame, recording a project with Lester called "Blues for Sale." Martin has continued to play extensively throughout L.A. and Orange County as a solo act as well as with the band Roadside Revelers. His latest CD, "Naked Blues Vol. II," will be re-released by Rip Cat.

Will Johns was born in London, 1973 to actress/model Paula Boyd, and L.A. Record Producer/Engineer Andy Johns (The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and Eric Clapton). At the age of 15, he started playing guitar and singing, during frequent stays with his Auntie Pattie, Will was encouraged and mentored by the legendary guitarist, Eric Clapton. Will studied performing arts in Oxford at Oxpens College, achieving a National Diploma while honing his guitar skills at the historic Carfax Crossroads. He eventually formed his first band, Cloud 9 which broke Will onto the stage and created a life long passion for performing with his guitar.

Whilst living in L.A., Will Johns bumped into his old friend, Jesse Wood (son of Ronnie) and together they formed the band GLYDA. The band had success releasing an album and three EP's, and wooing audiences in the US, Ireland, France, Germany, and UK. After GLYDA, Will began performing under the pseudonym of 'Willy Brown' and formed The Psychedelic Blues Band which toured along the south coast of England.

Black and Tan artist: miX&dorp - Black and Tan Edits - New Release Review

This is a first for me....to be reviewing a contemporary mix of traditional blues artists by a contemporary artist. Here's how the artist describes their work..."The blues used to be party music; now it can be played again at the hippest modern parties, festival and clubs ..…. and still feel down home".

It's hard to get you head around as you read it...but just listen to it. It is really solid sounding with the "real blues" deeply embedded and with an overmix of rhythms to make the music sound "new".

miX&dorp edits/remixes tracks that were originally released on Black and Tan Records in the past 14 years. It is a really refreshing look at the blues and I think one which will bring a broader audience to original blues music. Don't think of it as someone changing our "real blues"... think of how you found the "real Blues"... this is a new gateway!

If you're looking for something fresh but still want to listen to the delta sound... check this out. I really like it!

Track list and original artists:

1. Andaluzia (Pedro e os Lobos) **
2. Beggin Ain’t For Me (Big George Jackson)
3. Breakin Away (Billy Jones)
4. Can Man (Boo Boo Davis)
5. Dirty Haints (Big George Jackson)
6. Go For A Ride (Big George Jackson)
7. Here With You (Billy Jones)
8. Ice Storm (Boo Boo Davis)
9. It’s Hard (Harrison Kennedy)
10. Let Her Talk (Harrison Kennedy)
11. Mike in Jail (Boo Boo Davis)
12. Silvermine (Boo Boo Davis)
13. SixSixtySix (Turnip Greens)
14. Stay From The Casino (Boo Boo Davis)
15. The Devil Is Beating His Wife (Doug MacLeod)
16. The Snake (Boo Boo Davis)
