I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Transformation - Eric Gales - New release review

I just got the long awaited Eric Gales release Transformation (CD to be released on August 16, 2011). Eric never fails to breathe fire through his guitar, whether it be a "guitar era" explosion or a riff filled blues tune. This release falls right in line. The recording opens with a over driven tube sound blues rock tune, Railroaded, followed by a bright jazz influenced tune that could be right off of a Gatemouth Brown release called Double Dippin'. The third song "Tortured Mind" experiments with the heavier side of rock and more bass driven rock while "I Pity the Fool" is a straight forward rock tune with of course a significant amount of guitar style.Altered Destiny has a little of the funk back beat in the likes of earlier tunes and even brings to mind Frank Marino. The release continues with some very strong playing and then comes... Sometimes Wrong Feels Right. This is a great song and I wish there was a video of it to show you how strong it is. Great blues feeling and fire fire fire! The entire recording is very cohesive and I think most who like his style will love this release! It's definitely a guitar players blues recording. (The following recording doesn't appear on the cd but is a good representation of the type of fire Gales is capable of).
